Overview

Learning Hive Christian Academy is a Christian school with Early Years, Primary and Special Educational Needs pathways. This is the most complete project I have worked on: instead of a logo and a website, I built the school’s whole digital identity, from how it looks to the systems it runs on, and I still look after it.

The challenge

A growing school has to look credible to prospective families, run a lot of daily routines (grading, reports, attendance, pick-up, support plans) and protect information about children, all with a small team. Off-the-shelf tools covered pieces of that, but nothing joined it up, and nothing felt like the school.

Brand and public website

  • A navy and gold identity carried across the website, the app and every document the school sends out.
  • A public website organised around how families look for a school: the three learning pathways, admissions, school life, enrichment programmes and after-school clubs, the school’s Christian worldview, careers and a blog.
  • Custom interactive components built for the site: photo galleries, carousels, a video testimonial grid and a live events feed.
  • A full-screen document viewer, used to publish the school’s academic calendar so parents can open it in one tap.

School management system

Behind the public site sits a private portal for students, parents and staff, extended with modules built around the way the school actually works: a gradebook, term report cards, a pick-up and drop-off kiosk, support plans for children with special needs, an academic calendar and more, plus a mobile app. It has its own case study: Hive Classroom.

Cybersecurity and policy

  • Written cybersecurity policies for the school, covering who can see what, how staff accounts are managed and how information about children is handled.
  • Systems built to match the policy: every module follows one role-based access model, so staff only see what their role needs.
  • A habit of reviewing incidents and writing up what was learned.

Technical consulting

Ongoing advice to the school’s leadership on technology decisions: which tools to adopt, how they should connect, what is worth building and what is not, and how to keep everything running reliably.

What I did

I designed the brand, designed and built the website and its interactive components, built the school management modules and apps, wrote the security policies and act as the school’s technical consultant.
