Overview
Haven is a hub for luxury vacation apartments in Ghana, run like a private Airbnb. It is a booking platform with two sides: a public site where guests browse listings, pick their dates and book, and a booking engine behind it where the owner and a small team of co-hosts manage every listing in the Haven portfolio.
The guest site
- A dark, upscale site where guests choose check-in and check-out dates and the number of guests, then browse listings grouped by neighbourhood, such as Airport Residential, Cantonment, East Legon and Ridge.
- Each listing shows photos, size, the number of bedrooms and a nightly price.
- Booking and payment on the site, with optional extras added at checkout.
- A way to message the team or email an agent.
The booking engine and host dashboard
The standard admin area was too complicated for the people running the properties, so I built a custom booking engine and dashboard for them. It opens on a live overview of today’s check-ins and check-outs, unread messages, pending bookings and the arrivals coming up this week, and from there:
- A five-level role system. The owner, a full-access host, a host for calendar and messages, a calendar-only host and the developer each see only the screens they need. A calendar-only host sees “Booked” on a date and never a guest’s name.
- Listings dashboard. Every listing in one table, with the name, badge and nightly price editable in place, and the number of upcoming bookings linking straight to the calendar.
- Booking calendar. A calendar built from scratch showing every reservation across all properties.
- Guest messages. Conversations with guests in one place.
- Hosts and invitations. The owner adds co-hosts and chooses their access, and each one receives a branded invitation email.
- Pricing rules, amenities, house rules and calendar sync for each property, with the more sensitive settings reserved for the owner.
What I did
I designed and built the guest site and the booking engine behind it, and keep both running.
